Hey All: I am on my way soon to a news conference at Hall of Fame racing announcing their new driver which is expected to be JJ Yeley. I just got this from Hendrick Motorsports. Wanted to post it ASAP for you all.

MEARS TO DRIVE NO. 5 KELLOGG’S/CARQUEST CHEVYS IN 2008; EURY JOINING HENDRICK, GRUBB ASSUMING LEADERSHIP ROLE Casey Mears will drive the No. 5 Kellogg’s/CARQUEST Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, joining a team that secured its second consecutive Chase for the Championship berth Sunday at California Speedway. The effort will be led by Alan Gustafson, 32, who has earned four wins, two poles, 25 top-five finishes and 45 top-10s since his first season as crew chief of the No. 5 Chevrolet in 2005. Only five Cup Series teams have posted more top-10 finishes during that span.

TONY EURY JR. WILL JOIN HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS FOR 2008; DARIAN GRUBB TO MOVE INTO SENIOR LEADERSHIP POSITION When driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. joins Hendrick Motorsports for the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season, Tony Eury Jr. will be his crew chief. Eury, who has been Earnhardt’s crew chief for the past two seasons, signed a multi-year agreement with the organization this week.

“Tony Jr. and Dale have a successful history working together,” Hendrick said. “They have trust in each other, which is the biggest part of the relationship between driver and crew chief. We have the utmost confidence in their ability to win races and compete for titles at Hendrick Motorsports.”

What! I cannot believe it, although I think Alan is a great crew chief Darrian and Casey were just coming into their own together, once again Casey will have to deal with gettting the chemistry together at the start of the year, thus a learning curve. I guess I should hold off buying some new 25 stuff when I go the race this weekend. Not sure if Tony Jr coming with Jr. the smartest move, yes they have had success but limited but maybe contributed towards the equipment, let’s see what happens next year and if no improve Tony Jr has to go.

I am beyond excited that TJ is heading out with Junior… the two really do make a great pair and work smoothly together… I will admit I was one of the first to blame him before their split in 2005, and I would love the chance to apologize to Tony in person.. Because them splittin up was the worse thing that could happen.. it isnt just the driver that wins a race.. its the driver, team, crew chief and the car… its a whole package.. and having TJ along for this change makes it a whole lot easier to take.. THANKS TJ!!! WE LOVE YOU!!

Claire,
Thanks for posting this and ending some of the speculation. I think Tony Jr. coming with Dale Jr. is a great move. They have been though thick and thin together. You have to have trust with a crew chief/driver and the Juniors have that. I believe that next year is going to be a great year for the Junior Nation and I for one can’t wait. 🙂

Yeah, I am so glad Tony Jr. will be coming over with Dale Jr. It will be so for Dale Jr. to have that familar voice over the radio, and the trust they have in each other. Now with HMS engineering and Darian to help out, along with Alan, Steve and Chad, the skies are the limit.

I know it is hard for Casey fans who just had him change teams a year ago, but it it’s even tougher for us Junior fans who have to change everything, sponsor, team, colors, and the historical #8, all in one fell swoop after 8 years. But the future looks bright, and I can’t wait for 2008. 🙂

Thanks Claire for keeping the Jr. fans up to date. I did think Tony Jr. was going with Mr. Hendrick team, cause Mr. Hendrick knows what it takes for a package deal to win race’s. Ya’ll watch next year I think Jr. will have the wins that he wanted to get. GOOOOOO Jr. Flora

Well, that wasnt much of a shock! I hope Casey does good in the 5 car because he’s a good driver and this will be his chance to shine!

Well this is AWESOME news!! I’m very happy to have Tony Jr.on board with Dale Jr. @ HMS!! I really believe they have what it takes to be CHAMPION’S if given the proper equipment to compete with everyone else!!!

11. Lisa - September 5, 2007

I am relieved for Junior that Tony will be coming with him. There is ALOT of change ahead and being comfortable with the crew chief will be a huge advantage for him. They can just get right down to business this way! Can’t wait for the new season!!! I am really stoked!!!

12. Dana - September 7, 2007

I do not know if that is the right move letting Tony Jr come with Dale Jr to Hendrick, ya they have had some good history together but I think Tony Jr makes some bad calls. Nothing against him I think he should listen to you Jr a little more when it comes to the car!! Because you are the one driving it. You know what it needs and he should let you have it! Just speaking what’s on my mind.
