Hey I’m in the garage at Richmond and there’s a news flash tidbit I wanted to get to you immediately:

Regan Smith to take the wheel of DEI’s fourth entry; Mark Martin and Eric Almirola to take over the No. 8 – Dale Earnhardt, Inc.’s four-car lineup has been settled for the 2008 season, with Regan Smith being the latest driver to join the organization. Smith is the final piece to the driver corps that includes Martin Truex Jr., Paul Menard, Mark Martin and Aric Almirola. “Our lineup is a perfect blend of veteran leadership and youthful promise,” said Max Siegel, president of global operations for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. “The addition of Mark Martin’s leadership and his desire to mentor our drivers is huge for us. Paul Menard and Martin Truex Jr. have been with our company for several years and we have confidence and great expectations in both of them, which allows us to further develop our future with two rookie drivers in Regan and Aric.”

Ummmmm……….is this the “top tier” driver that Max said Dei was going after???? This is it? This is all DEI could do??? BUY drivers???? WOW! Things are worse than i thought!

2. Patrick - September 7, 2007

great looking lineup for DEI next year.

I agree with Marcie, I was coming here to post the same thing. LOL

Top tier hahahahahaha……….Oh and good luck to them with that.

Claire, how long is the Army’s contract with the 01/8. 😦

4. Shawnda Moore - September 7, 2007

JR Gal………my thoughts too.

5. Sherry - September 8, 2007

I thought Mark Martin was going to retire a couple of years ago. Even Darlene does not want him full time…. I would not want to put anyone in the #8 for a couple of years.

6. Flora Stanton - September 10, 2007

My Thought first of all glad Mark Martin is part time driving the #8. I meet Mark and he is awesome person. Mark loves to race and I did not think that he leave it for retirement. On another note DEI will I said it and still beleive that next year for them is not going to be good, yes Martin and Truex will get it done but they will not be up front. Still think that this was a bad move for DEI. But that’s my thought!!

I think Mark Martin is a great guy and a fabulous driver and it would be a real privilege to have someone as good as him to drive the 8 car next year since you can’t.
Anyway two 8’s are better than one. Right?
